The Good Work Continues in San Dieguito Union High School District

SDUHSD earns its reputation for quality and efficiency.
Much has been accomplished in the San Dieguito Union High School District (SDUHSD) in the last four years. Through conservative management, we weathered the recent recession without eliminating programs, without reduction of school days, and without teacher layoffs. At the same time, student achievement has not suffered --- our schools are among the top ranked in the county, state, and country.
This success is possible because the focus is kept on what's best for our students. Developing alternatives and choices is essential -- our students and families are not all alike. A "one size fits all" approach is unacceptable, which is why SDUHSD has developed:

  • flexible school start times
  • more electives such as coding, engineering, fashion design, and music recording
  • award winning extra- and co-curricular programs at all of its high schools in the arts, technology and athletics.

In a vote of confidence, our community approved $449 million of construction and modernization funding, Prop AA, which earned the endorsement of the San Diego County Taxpayers Association. By keeping the construction management "in-house" SDUHSD will save $8 million of taxpayers' money. All of our nine schools will be modernized and ready to serve our students for the next 30 years. The tenth school, a middle school in the south end of the district, will be built to reduce the size of the existing Carmel Valley Middle School.

Curriculum that emphasizes not just learning the basic concepts, but also applying that knowledge is being thoughtfully and strategically implemented in our district. Open and constant communication with our parents is critical. Local control allows us to tailor our instructional methods to our students and community. As a parent, I know how critical it is for parents to understand the "why" and "how" of their child's education.

I am proud of the good work that has been done in the San Dieguito Union High School District during my time on the school board. We have highly qualified staff, involved parents and amazing students. I hope to continue to be involved in this good work.
