It is an honor to serve you as one of the directors of Tri-City Hospital, Our Hospital. I am a native of the City of Vista, and I know the needs of the communities that comprise the Tri-City Healthcare District, which is the political entity that runs Our Hospital.

Our Hospital must continue to provide us with the highest possible medical care, while not losing sight of us as individuals. The face of healthcare may be changing, but I have watched with pride as we meet each new challenge successfully. Our Hospital already exceeds community expectations, as the outstanding accomplishments of our staff demonstrate.

I have proven leadership from my time of service on the board of Our Hospital, from my prior positions as an elected and appointed government official, and from my volunteer work on the boards of nonprofit organizations. I have served on the board of Our Hospital since July of 2013, when I was appointed to fill a vacancy. I am a former member of the Vista City Council and the Vista Planning Commission. I have also served on the board of the Tri-City Hospital Foundation. I received my B. A. from Stanford University, and my J. D. from the UCLA School of Law.

I know the importance of listening respectfully to the public and to my board colleagues. I form opinions and make decisions with care. I am honored that the medical staff of Our Hospital has endorsed me, as well as the other four incumbent candidates.

My board colleagues and I have already accomplished a great deal since my appointment. We have restored the trust of the public [as we have done with our medical staff] by listening attentively and respectfully to others' points of view in order to work together cooperatively. My most important goal now is to improve and revitalize our ER, in order to limit wait times for patients, to provide a more comfortable environment for friends and relatives while they wait, and to improve the privacy of patients once they are admitted.

Campaigns can generate a lot of rumors. One example in this election is the notion that the board of Our Hospital plans to sell it to a competitor. Please let me be clear on this point + I have no interest in selling or merging Our Hospital, or selling or leasing all or substantially all of its assets. Our Hospital is a public hospital. It exists because of the foresight of community leaders over fifty years ago, and our property taxes continue to support it. Despite comments to the contrary, the board of our Hospital cannot merge or sell it in secret. Several public hearings must first be held, followed by the affirmative vote of a majority of you, the residents of the district, in a public election.

I encourage you to support me, as your friends and neighbors, and local and regional leaders, are doing. For example, I am endorsed by

State Assemblyman Rocky Chavez
Supervisor Pat Bates
Former State Senator Bill Morrow
Carlsbad Mayor Matt Hall
Encinitas Mayor Kristin Gaspar
Vista Mayor Judy Ritter
Vista Council Member David Cowles
Oceanside Council Member Jerry Kern
Oceanside Council Member Gary Felien

I never forget that public service is an honor. I ask for your vote. Thank you.
