Achievements and Goals

By Sam Abed

Candidate for Mayor; City of Escondido

This information is provided by the candidate
I am honored to serve as Escondido Mayor since 2010 and your Councilman since 2004. The proudest days of my life were when I swore to support and defend the constitution, first as a U.S. citizen, and again as mayor in 2010.
I kept my promises to the voters and made significant changes at City Hall. I am proud of our accomplishments of Fiscal Discipline, Smaller Government, Public Safety and Economic Growth. In few years we have:

  • Balanced our budget, turned a $16 million deficit of four years before I was elected mayor to an $8 million surplus in the last four years without using reserves or raising taxes.
  • Built a $16.5 million reserve fund, improving Escondido bond rating to AA.
  • Attracted more than $500 million in new investments to Escondido and created more than 1,000 new jobs.
  • Reduced government size and wasteful spending, improved efficiency and streamlined regulations.
  • Implemented pension reform to meet our financial stability goal. Hired more police officers and efficiently staffed our fire stations, earning the San Diego Taxpayers Associations 2013 Metro Golden Award.
  • Reduced Crime by 25% since 2004, 14% last year making Escondido a safer city.
  • Maintained the Traffic Safety Check Points to remove hundreds of criminal from our neighborhoods.
  • Opened City Hall on Fridays and improved city's image as an attractive place to live, do business and visit. Best Life magazine ranked Escondido #49 in the best 100 cities to raise a family.
  • Restored traditional values in government to make Escondido the finest city in San Diego County.

I will continue to focus on Economic Growth, Public Safety, Fiscal Management and Neighborhood Improvement.

I reaffirm my pledge to unite our community and to protect our values and our freedom to lead Escondido to prosperity and help all who live in our city to provide a better life for their families.

I love our City and I love our Country.

Thank you for your vote and support.
