Infrastructure IMprovement

By Gordon Siebert

Candidate for Council Member; City of Morgan Hill

This information is provided by the candidate
City Council needs to act to ensure that the City's assets, its' parks, recreation facilities, streets and utilities are maintained to serve needs far into the future..
The City owns hundreds of millions of dollars worth of physical assets that residents use and enjoy every day. The City's parks and recreational facilities, streets, buildings, water, storm and sewer pipes need to be maintained in order to perform well and serve the community. Our streets are deteriorating faster than we are repairing them. The backlog is about $17 million and growing. Residents will need to be informed in order to make decisions to either live with deteriorated infrastructure, reprioritize City funds or come up with new funding.

Some areas will benefit from the $25 million in Redevelopment bonds that the City wa0a able to retain after we sued the State. The Downtown will see improved parking, improvements to Llagas Creek to prevent flooding, undergrounding of utility wires and reconstruction of streets, sidewalks and landscaping. But these former RDA funds are limited and finite. More work is needed, and new funding will need to be found to offset deterioration and obsolescence.
