Candidate Statement

By Martha McClatchie

Candidate for Board Member; Los Altos School District

This information is provided by the candidate
Here is my candidate statement as filed with the Registrar of Voters as it appears on the Ballot this November
Occupation: Community Volunteer LASD is fabulous, yet faces two great challenges in the next decade. First, address the enrollment growth and serve the areas of our District with the greatest needs. Let's boil down the options and move forward. I support the bond which will benefit all public school children. Second, while mastery of core subject matter is essential, students need to learn to analyze information, think critically, relate ideas to one another, apply knowledge to various situations, collaborate, communicate and problem solve. Our children must learn how to use information to make decisions. I will work with teachers and parents to implement a learning environment designed for the 21st Century.

These past ten years I have volunteered in the classroom, as a Girl Scout Leader, and with the Kiwanis Club and League of Women Voters. For twenty years previously, I gained expertise as a CPA, organizing startup companies and reorganizing corporations. Managing change in complex organizations such as LASD is my strength, and I will use my extensive financial expertise and years of community leadership to benefit our students.

My family has lived in Los Altos seven years, and my three children have attended Oak and Bullis. Thank you for your confidence. http://www.mcclatchie.com
