West Basin Municipal Water District Reform

By Monica Diana Cooper

Candidate for Member, Board of Directors; West Basin Municipal Water District; Division 1

This information is provided by the candidate
Water Policy, Self Enrichment and the restoration of the public's trust.
Over the past several years we have watched in dismay the last two Water Board directors in Division 1 be convicted of misappropriating Water Board funds. Policies and oversight must be established and implemented to prevent this type of fraudulent activity from continuing to occur. Wasteful agency spending and poor budgeting practices continue to impact our water rates and keep the agency in a budget deficit 7 out of the last 10 years all while keeping the agency reserves below the mandated threshold. We can no longer continue the business as usual model. Career politicians who are candidates and friends of current board members continue to rotate in and out of this elected seat for the benefits it offers and not for the service of the people. I am not a career politician and my goal is to provide honest, hard work and accountable service to the people I would represent in the district. I'm not interested in maintaining status quo if it is not beneficial to the water consumers of this district. With my years of experience in managing millions of dollars in public funds which were subject to strict agency guidelines and detailed audits,I can make the difference this board needs, In addition I will support policies which promote clean safe water supplies and water rate stabilization. I am prepared for this challenge and will do all that is required to make these needed changes a reality.
