Jim Erb has been a licensed certified public accountant since 1993 and has worked in the San Luis Obispo County Auditor-Controller's Office since 1990. In 2013, Jim was appointed to the department head, replacing long-time Auditor-Controller Gere Sibbach, who is endorsing Jim's first bid for elective office. When the County Board of Supervisors merged the Office of Auditor-Controller with the Office of Treasurer-Tax Collector in August 2013, Jim became the first County Auditor-Controller-Treasurer-Tax Collector-Public Administrator.
Jim was raised in Santa Barbara, California. After high school he attended Santa Barbara City College and worked in the health care industry as a paramedic. He graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo in 1985 with a Business Administration degree, accounting concentration. Upon graduation from Cal Poly, he was recruited by the Los Angeles County Auditor-Controller's Office to work as an internal auditor before eventually coming to work for San Luis Obispo County.
