Maggy Krell has spent her legal career focused on making her community a better place. She is a staunch advocate for victim's rights and is a proven leader with the broad experience Sacramento needs as the District Attorney's office undertakes new challenges.

As a career prosecutor who has handled hundreds of cases as a Deputy Attorney General and Deputy District Attorney, Maggy has never let budget challenges or a lack of resources stop her. She is currently leading efforts to investigate human trafficking by joining with other law enforcement agencies and victim service organizations to put an end to an egregious yet often undetected criminal industry that plagues Sacramento streets.

The Attorney General also selected Maggy to serve on the newly created California Mortgage Fraud Strike Force in 2011, where she successfully built coalitions with other law enforcement agencies and community stakeholders to work as a team to prevent and prosecute mortgage fraud. She has worked tirelessly to protect distressed homeowners from fraud and unfair business practices and in this capacity, Maggy filed a number of aggressive criminal cases against those who prey on vulnerable Californians, particularly non-English speaking communities and the elderly. For her hard work, Maggy received an Attorney General Team Excellence Award in 2012.

As a Deputy Attorney General, Maggy worked to uphold the sentence and conviction of Sacramento's "Thrill Killer," who murdered six innocent victims during two robberies. Additionally, after gang members robbed a Kern County District Attorney Investigator at gunpoint, the Attorney General sent Maggy to handle the prosecution of several members of the East Side Crips in Bakersfield. When Lassen County authorities were unable to stop a savage killer from being paroled, they asked the Attorney General's office for help. Again Maggy was dispatched to re-evaluate a 1988 homicide where he was a suspect and successfully prosecuted the cold case, keeping the killer behind bars.

Maggy began her career as a prosecutor in the Attorney General's Office. To gain more trial experience, she went to work as a Deputy District Attorney in Stockton, which is one of the toughest areas in California. As a Deputy District Attorney, Maggy prosecuted a variety of cases, ranging from misdemeanors to domestic violence. She was asked to rejoin the Attorney General's Office, where she went to work as a trial prosecutor and an appellate attorney gaining experience in both state and federal courts throughout California.

Outside of the courtroom, Maggy has volunteered for numerous charity and community projects over the years. She is a graduate of King Hall at U.C. Davis School of Law and U.C. San Diego. She has been an adjunct professor at Davis, teaching trial skills to second and third year law students as well as teaching trial fundamentals to other attorneys at the Attorney General's Office.

Maggy and her husband Cary live in Sacramento, raising two wonderful children. In their free time, Maggy and Cary participate in the Tough Mudder, a rigorous run and obstacle course that raises money for the Wounded Warrior Project.

With your support, Maggy seeks to serve the citizens of Sacramento County as District Attorney and is committed to bringing our community together to reduce recidivism, fight crime, and make our neighborhoods safe and vibrant.
