Questions & Answers

1. The district has been in the news on a number of issues. Which stand out for you. Where would you start to resolve them?

1) Continue to create more trust and better working liaisons'/relationships with other municipalities, the County of Marin, and the ratepayers. Transparent and clear communication with the community. I initiated our RVSD meetings on Marin community TV. More education to the public on our financial plans, impacts of spills, how to recognize a spill and how our environment is impacted from spills. 2) Continue to improve the health, safety of the environment by implementing replacement of the aging sewer infrastructure in a timely manner. This budget we have $10 million in funds for capital improvements. I promote more funds for the lateral grant program as 50% to 70% of spills are from cracked or broken laterals. 3) Diligently focusing on the budget to create financial stability now and for the future, using the Infrastructure Assessment Management Plan, which has been recently completed. 4) Create a strategic plan for the RVSD to address goals and objectives for our mission of our agency including the input from the ratepayers. 5) Watch carefully our legal fees. Use mediation when possible, and recently we have hired a human resources agency which is lowering our legal bills significantly. Create a survey for the public to give feedback on areas where we are deficit and how we can improve our service. Our new HR is also reviewing all policies and procedures, amending old and outdated P & P and creating new P & P, to bring our agency up to better business practices.
