I was born, raised and educated in San Francisco. I moved to Marin County in 1987 with my children because of the great schools, great community and the beauty of the natural environment. I have been a nurse most of my career with a focus on maternal child health. I have been an educator in nursing as well.

As the incumbent county supervisor for more than eleven years, I am uniquely qualified to continue our work together when compared to my opponent. I have developed contacts, relationships and policies while in this role which will continue to serve my community. I have a long list of accomplishments I am proud of. Please visit my web site at www.susanadams.us for more information.

I completed my master's degree in nursing at UCSF as a maternity clinical specialist and a women's health nurse practitioner. My clinical practice and research focus was childbearing women with a special interest in addiction and recovery during pregnancy and motherhood. I graduated from the doctoral program at UCSF in 1998. My research and dissertation work investigated the experiences of pregnant women and new mothers who were using crack cocaine.

As a County Supervisor, I serve on a number of boards and commissions including the Children's Health Initiative Task Force, San Francisco Estuary Partnership, Marin County Disaster Council, Marin County Transit District, Transportation Authority of Marin, Marin Housing Authority, Criminal Justice and Behavioral Health Task Force, Local Agency Formation Commission (LAFCO), Bay Area Air Quality Management District, California State Association of Counties (CSAC), Executive Committee and vice chair of the Housing and Transportation Committee, National Association of Counties (NACo), chair of the Health Care Reform Committee and member of the Veteran's Task Force. I also serve as a Director of Emergency Services. A full listing of my board and commission memberships is listed on my county web page.

I have been deeply engaged and involved with our community in creating a new public safety building, the Health and Wellness Campus, bike and pedestrian pathways, a nationally recognized medical reserve corps, organic school gardens, after school programs, flood protection programs, wildland/urban interface vegetation management plans, watershed restoration programs and numerous improvements to children's parks.

I have been unafraid to tackle the toughest problems and bring them to resolution, including protecting two properties in my district from massive sprawling development, brokering a deal between the San Rafael Rock Quarry and their neighbors, launching the Marin Clean Energy Authority as the deciding vote, bringing the county budget into structural balance while paying down the pension and medical retiree funding obligations, and ensuring that families have a full array of health services, including women's reproductive choice. I have been a past 20 year member of the California Nurses' Association and I continue to be a strong supporter of the hard working men and women who are an important part of the fabric of our community.
