Smart Voter Full Biography for Randy Warren

Candidate for
Council Member; City of San Rafael

This information is provided by the candidate

Randy has lived in the Terra Linda neighborhood of San Rafael since 1994, and Marin since 1991. He lives here with Suki, his wife of 37 years (that's duration, not her age!), and they raised their daughter here. Randy and Suki founded a non-profit theatre company.

Randy has very diverse life experiences, from working on Broadway to manning the race pits at Daytona. He has been published in numerous magazines and newspapers, including the Marin IJ, and was among the co-authors of a book about psychological harm to children in high conflict custody cases.

Randy served on the board of the ACLU of SW Florida. He was a delegate to Florida's Democratic Convention and statewide treasurer of the Young Democrats.

In 1987, Randy and Suki opened their first family business, a travel agency in Florida. After four years, the business was successful enough that they moved both home and business to Marin. The work provided wonderful explorations. Randy has visited 32 countries spanning the globe, which inspired his interest in helping street orphans in Delhi and rural children of the Himalayas (if you ever go: they need tooth brushes and they love pens).

While working the travel agency by day, Randy put himself through law school at night. He earned a magna cum laude law degree, and was his law school's first early graduate to be valedictorian. Randy has twice been honored with the State Bar's Wiley W. Manuel award for his contributions of pro bono legal services. These free legal services were provided to Latina women escaping domestic violence, in conjunction with San Rafael's Marin Abused Women's Services (now Center For Domestic Peace). As an attorney, Randy relishes practice in the appellate courts, but his most rewarding cases are always the tracking and recovery of abducted children. He has had two successful recoveries, three children in total.

Randy loves problem solving, hypotheticals, theatre, motorcycling, living in Marin...and is a big time animal lover. He is among the co-holders of the world's altitude record for motorcycling, set at 18,380 feet in the Himalayas.

Randy seeks to bring a fresh voice and perspective to our city government, to give the council a diversity of vision as we all seek to maintain our wonderful city, address the problems that are arising, and try to anticipate what future challenges await our city down the road.
