A Scientist on the Board

By Daniel R. Durkin

Candidate for Board Member; Larkspur-Corte Madera School District

This information is provided by the candidate
To use my unique scientific experience to analyze the issues before the Board.
Members of the Board must tackle a wide range of questions: Who goes to what school? What will that school look like? What will the curriculum be? What materials will support that curriculum? What can we afford? Trained as an experimental scientist, with a Ph.D. in Physics, I will bring my unique scientific training and analytical skills to bear upon the issues before the Board to deliver thoughtful, well-reasoned answers.

Long before my work in a physics laboratory, I was a young boy in the Maryland countryside chasing butterflies; thus began my pursuit of knowledge. I know what makes a scientist, a mathematician, an engineer, a programmer. I understand that engaging a child's senses in the natural world inspires them to learn and to create. I am ideally suited to guide the implementation of the new Common Core State Standards and the next generation of Science and Social Studies standards.
