I am the primary caregiver for my family, living in Corte Madera. My wife is a Professor of Rheumatology at UCSF and our two daughters attend Neil Cummins and Hall schools. Prior to having children, I was an Engineering Physicist at Stanford University and a Staff Scientist at The University of California at Berkeley. I have a Ph.D. in Physics from The University of California at Berkeley and a B.A. in Physics from The Johns Hopkins University.

I have a love of nature, and I enjoy sharing this passion with children. In collaboration with teachers, I create science and math activities that excite the children and enrich their education. While at UC Berkeley, I volunteered in the education outreach program at the National Science Foundation's Center for Particle Astrophysics: we developed activities and visited classes at Berkeley's Longfellow Middle school, and we held a summer astronomy camp for American Indian children. I also regularly visited a second grade class in Oakland, presenting science activities and mentoring the children. I have experience volunteering in Berkeley, Oakland, San Francisco, and Larkspur-Corte Madera public schools.

I have continued to volunteer in the classrooms at Neil Cummins, where many children know me as "Dr. Dan". I continue to create hands-on science and math activities, and I volunteer in the classroom math centers. I also lead nature walks and insect hunts around the Neil Cummins campus, and I collaborate with the Farallones Marine Sanctuary to directly introduce children to marine life. The first graders at Neil Cummins now visit the Sanctuary's center at Crissy Field as part of their studies of the ocean.

At Neil Cummins, I was in charge of the games for the PTA's 2012 Fall Carnival; many of these games I designed and constructed. I also volunteered at recess for the Playworks program.

Some children in Larkspur and Corte Madera also know me as "Coach Dan" - I have coached my daughters' softball and soccer teams.

I also serve on the Mariner Cove Neighborhood Association's board as the School Liaison.
