Welcome to my website, and the very important election for Los Angeles City Council in the 3rd District.

Ours is certainly one of the largest City Council District in America - both in population and geography. All of the problems and challenges facing our City, as well as its tremendous diversity and resources, are reflected here in the San Fernando Valley that we call home.

In our own neighborhoods of Woodland Hills, Canoga Park, Winnetka, Reseda and Tarzana, we are extremely concerned about emergency response times, and a Fire Department that cannot seem to tell time.

Many of our roads and sidewalks are in deteriorating condition, with our Public Works Department talking about a several years backlog for repairs and maintenance.

The Orange Line and Rapid Bus lines have arrived, but much more is needed if it's going to be possible to travel even short distances without sitting in gridlock on the 101 Freeway.

Meanwhile, small businesses are struggling, along with many of our neighbors, in an economy with high unemployment, chronic underemployment, and little potential growth on the horizon.

In the midst of this downturn, what has been the response of the City Council? Pathetically inadequate.

Pension Reform Must be the First Priority

Instead of balancing the budget, the City's future fiscal years have deficits as far as the eye can see. Instead of reining in public pension costs, as many cities have sought to do, our "Silly Council" adopts resolutions worrying about what music is heard when a caller to the City is put on hold. I suppose this is the Council's idea of facing the music!

In the weeks and months to come, I'll be talking about how we can rescue our City from the usual politicians and improve our local quality-of-life. I hope you'll be logging on regularly and participate in the discussion.
