Mayor Maurer's Priorities are Our Priorities

During her time on the City Council, Calabasas has maintained its small town character and beauty while growing its reputation as one of California's best cities to live in.Mayor Mary Sue Maurer has an ambitious vision for the City of Calabasas, and brings a collaborative leadership style with a successful record of working with others to accomplish goals. She has earned widespread respect for her pragmatic problem-solving skills and fiscal management policies.
Education As a teacher, and with three sons who attended Calabasas public schools, Mayor Maurer is keenly aware of the pressure the LVUSD is under to maintain high standards in our schools. She is committed to continuing the city's partnership with the LVUSD on innovative programs to support high-quality public schools in Calabasas.
Senior Issues A strong and passionate advocate for senior well-being issues, Mayor Maurer will continue to represent senior issues on the council and is committed to working with the Senior Task Force to build a Calabasas Senior Center.
Environmental Stewardship Mayor Maurer is a longtime member of the Santa Monica Mountains Conservancy Advisory Committee and has been steadfast in her commitment to maintaining the beautiful open space surrounding the city. She has been a leader in championing environmental ordinances and will continue to advocate for new measures that will ensure cleaner air, water, and protection of natural resources.
Public Safety Mayor Maurer's partnership and close relationship with local law enforcement at the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff's Station has made Calabasas one of the safest cities in California. As a parent and teacher, she is a strong advocate for California's strict gun control laws and encourages higher federal standards. She will continue to support any resources needed to ensure our homes, schools, and businesses are protected.
Small Business Advocate As a committed member of the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Maurer has been a strong and steady supporter of local businesses. In 2012, she signed a proclamation declaring the Calabasas Chamber of Commerce the Official City Chamber, thus streamlining local businesses' ability to partner more effectively. She will continue to weigh the impact of any new ordinance on the business community by addressing business owner concerns during the legislative process.
Fiscally Conservative Mayor Maurer will continue her fiscally conservative approach to managing the city's budget. For seven consecutive years, the City of Calabasas has won the most prestigious award for its budget transparency and accounting. During the turbulent economic downturn, the city maintained the highest rating possible for a city its size by both Moody and Standards and Poor.
