Candidate for
Mayor; City of Redondo Beach

This information is provided by the candidate

30 years ago my wife and I chose Redondo Beach for the place we wanted to buy a home and raise our children. We couldn't imagine a more wonderful place to live. I love playing volleyball on the beach, sailing, and going for long bike rides along the coast. I have backpacked through much of the Sierras as well the Angeles Crest Mountains. I enjoy working on projects around the house as well as baking in the kitchen. Redondo Beach has given so much to me and my family I am compelled to give back in the most meaningful way that I can. Born and raised in Los Angeles, I am the 2nd to the youngest of 11 children. My father was a successful aerospace engineer and my mother a credentialed school teacher. I graduated from U.C.L.A. with a degree in Chemical Engineering and, following my father's footsteps, worked for over 20 years in the aerospace industry here in the South Bay where I specialized in environmental and safety issues. 12 years ago I decided to follow a passion of mine, teaching. I successfully completed my teaching credential program receiving my credential in science and chemistry. I started teaching at Redondo Union High School and now teach at Adams Middle School. For me the intangible rewards of teaching have far outnumbered the financial rewards of the corporate world. I have been married for 33 years to my wife Debbie, and together we have raised 3 wonderful children. My oldest are twin daughters, Catherine and Rebecca, and the youngest is my son Patrick. As my children participated in various sports, clubs, and organizations I was drawn in to help. I have coached at every level of AYSO soccer and have served on the Board of Directors for the last 15 years. I have received recognition as the AYSO Volunteer of the Year as well as twice being recognized for having refereed the most games. I have also served on the PTSA Board and have twice been awarded the Honorary Service Award. I have served as a Boy Scout of America adult leader for almost 20 years, 3 years as Scoutmaster. I have also spent a number of years volunteering with various City, civic, and community groups. I am a past President of the Redondo Beach Jaycees, receiving their Redondo Beach Young Man of the Year award. I served 8 years on the Redondo Beach School District Bond Oversight Committee. I have 12 years of experience on various City Commissions including the Public Safety Commission, Public Works Commission, and the Planning Commission, including serving a term as the Chairman. I am also a proud new member of Redondo Beach Rotary. Of course the last 5 years I have spent serving the community as a Councilmember for the City of Redondo Beach. As a Councilmember I have also been elected to serve on the Audit Sub-Committee for the City of Redondo Beach, and the South Bay Council of Governments Steering Committee.
