Council Member; City of Thousand Oaks

This information is provided by the candidate

Al is a 35-year resident of Thousand Oaks. He's married to Marilyn and they have twin daughters Erica and Allison who attend Westlake High School. Al graduated from Rutgers University with a degree in Political Science. He has been a financial advisor for the last 33 years and is a Senior Vice President of Investments with Wells Fargo Advisors in Westlake Village. He has received many industry honors including being named to the Director's and President's Councils and has earned the select designation of Premier Advisor. Over the years, Al has been entrusted with the financial well being of many families throughout the Conejo Valley. He takes great pride in helping his clients achieve their financial dreams.

Al and his family are great believers in community involvement. As a board member and Chair, Al served both the Conejo Valley and Southeast Ventura County YMCA for over 25 years helping to rebuild the Conejo Y and launch the Miller Y in Dos Vientos. He was also a ten-year member and Chair of the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza Board of Governors. He helped keep the theaters in the black and brought hundreds of topflight performances to Thousand Oaks. Marilyn and Al joined the Alliance for the Arts in 1994 and are one of the original 100 donors that have allowed the theaters to operate without cost to the taxpayers. As Foundation Circle Founding 100 members they have been happy to see the Alliance and the theaters it supports become such an integral part of the community. Al also supports the business community by being an active member in both local Chambers of Commerce. Marilyn participates in the Volunteers in Policing program and is a graduate of the Citizen's Academy. She is also very active in the school district and has been a huge help in Al's political life. Allison and Erica are following in their Dad's footsteps and are both in student government. They have received awards for citizenship and academic excellence and are both active in Junior Youth Fellowship at church.

Al became politically involved during the fight for Ahmanson Ranch and the great SOAR initiatives of the mid-Nineties. During that time he met Ventura County Supervisor Linda Parks and they have campaigned together for many years. Al even worked part time as an Administrative Assistant in Supervisor Parks' office for a few years and was a liaison to the Santa Rosa Valley, Lynn Ranch, the CVUSD and the Auditor-Controller, Assessor and Treasurer departments of the County. Al also serves on the SOAR Board and is dedicated to protecting open space and farmland throughout Ventura County. In 2006, Councilmember Claudia Bill-de la Peņa appointed Al to the Thousand Oaks Planning Commission where he served for four years working hard to protect our quality of life.

Al was 2010 runner up in one of the closest City Council races in the history of Thousand Oaks. Al received 14,868 votes and missed it by just 146 votes, a less than one tenth of one percent margin. The Thousand Oaks Citizens for Term Limits Initiative authored by Al will appear on the November 2012 ballot. Al collected over 12,000 signatures to qualify this measure and put it before the voters.
