After my father retired from the Air Force in the summer of 1976, my parents bought a home in Rancho Cordova. I grew up down the street from Federspiel Park and still have wonderful memories of playing at the playground, swimming in the community pool and occasionally running through the sprinklers on hot summer days!

I am the youngest of seven, all graduates of Cordova Senior High School. I attended Mather Heights and Rancho Cordova Elementary, Mills Junior High and Cordova Senior High, graduating from Cordova in 1987.

I have lived and worked in this community for most of my life. My wife, Stephanie, and I have raised our three daughters in this community, two of which have also graduated from Cordova with the youngest currently attending there. We have utilized many of the district's facilities and programs over the years. Our daughters have taken swimming lessons at Hagan, attended Camp Cordova, and played basketball, just to mention a few. They have enjoyed countless birthday parties, attended sports practices and played many youth soccer games at numerous parks in this district over their lifetime.

I have been actively involved with local youth sports for over ten years. In 2002 I coached my first team for the Rancho Cordova Soccer Club. I also volunteered as a board member for many years, and served as club manager for three years prior to joining the Cordova Girls Softball League board of directors several years ago. I continue to serve on this board and currently coach boys youth soccer as well. Additionally, I am serving on the committee forming the Rancho Cordova Athletic Association.

Parks and recreation programs are essential to the success of our community and to the health and well-being of our kids. Children need safe places to play and positive activities to pursue. Having grown up in this community, I have been fortunate to enjoy our great parks. But I have also witnessed the changes our parks have been through + not all of which are positive.

Our parks should be the envy of other communities, and they should be managed in an efficient and effective manner for the benefit of all. I have the experience and the background to lead us in the right direction.

As a coach and board member for several local youth programs, I have seen the results of offering great programs for our youth. In my business career, I have learned how to operate with efficiency towards important goals. Finally, my experience as the manager of a local soccer club has taught me how to plan, coordinate, collaborate with other board members and community partners and maintain a balanced budget.

I will bring a fresh perspective to the challenges this district faces and will work hard for all citizens of our district.

My experience, knowledge and love for this community make me a great candidate for Director of the Cordova Recreational and Park District. Please, vote for Michael Yearwood on November 6.
