Ryan Herche was born in Palo Alto, California. In high school he grew passionate about public policy and competed nationally in speech and debate. After high school, Ryan went to work as a non-credentialed teacher, coaching students in the fine art of speech and debate. Ryan studied biology and chemistry at University of the Pacific, then earned a Master of Science in Plant Pathology at UC Davis. While he was in school, Ryan represented the Sacramento Youth Drug and Alcohol Coalition, which developed community level prevention strategies targeting teen alcohol use.

After graduation, Ryan served as Vice President of the National Council on Alcoholism and Drug Dependence Sacramento Region Affiliate, which works to promote public understanding of alcoholism and drug addiction as treatable and preventable diseases. Ryan ran for Natomas school board in 2010 and knocked on over 6,000 doors. In the end, he lost the race by a mere 20 votes.

After the election, Ryan began to work as a legislative analyst for the Department of Health Care Services.

Ryan is running for school board because he is a prospective parent and is deeply concerned about the future of our schools. His core value is to promote equal and quality access to education. Ryan lives in Natomas and enjoys spending quality time with his wife Nkiruka.
