Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Mary D'Amour

Candidate for
Board Member; Placer Hills Union School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a registered Republican because I believe in running an efficient government within budget constraints. I believe in the sanctity of human life and protecting the rights of the unborn child from untimely death through abortion. I believe in equal opportunity for all private citizens to earn a living and be treated equal by society. I believe in the principles of the Constitution of the United States of America and the freedoms it guarantees. I believe we ought to help the poor and those who cannot work, but set safeguards for the abuse of such programs by people who can work, but won't work. I believe that God set the standards by which I am to live and am thankful that I live in a country that still protects my freedom to live out my faith. I understand that an elected government official is one that represents the people of his or her community. If I am elected, I invite you to come to the school board meetings and express your personal concerns. The job of the school board is to set the direction for the district through a process that involves the community, parents, students, and staff. My purpose as a school board member would be to provide citizen oversight of the district. As such, I (and the rest of the board members) value your input. I want to be responsive to YOUR values, beliefs and priorities for our school and not just my own. I will do my best to represent you, the people of the Placer Hills Union School District! I cannot do that without your communication, so speak up people of the beautiful Sierra Nevada Foothills and let us know what you want your school to be like. If you have concerns about our curriculum, speak up. If you have concerns about the way we operate, speak up. To rephrase one of my favorite presidents, Ronald Reagan, the government is like a car and we (the people) are the drivers. We, the people, must drive the car, or it will drive over us! Our government is supposed to represent us, the people of the United States. My job, as a school board member is to know you, and to hold the district accountable to your values and standards for the education on your children. I am here to listen to you and ensure accountability to the public for the performance of the districts schools.
