My Candidacy

By Marcia A. Johnson

Candidate for Director; Ross Valley Sanitary District; District 1

My reasons for running for re-election, my background, and my dedication to the issues at hand.
My candidacy

I am a candidate because I want to continue to work to protect the environment and public health. Due to our country's more sophisticated infrastructure systems, a lot of our citizens do not consider what happens after they flush the toilet. Yet only 30% of the world enjoys the safety that having toilets and the associated wastewater collection systems bring to them. However, due to the age of our infrastructure, not only locally but nationwide, we need to work towards updating and replacing the failing parts before harm is caused not just to the environment, but that the public health is threatened too.

I have been working continuously on this issue since I became more knowledgeable about it in 2006. I was appointed to the Ross Valley Sanitary District Board in 2007 and elected to the Board in 2008. The work is ongoing and needs someone who has shown through their history that they are dedicated to this cause and will continue to be so into the future. Since the infrastructure problem is a large one, and will take years to get accomplished, it needs a person who has demonstrated their commitment to advancing and initiating long term solutions.

I have lived in the Ross Valley for 40 years and raised my family here. I have a financial and operations management professional background. Increasing labor and construction costs, increased governmental regulation and adverse impact on income streams due to economic conditions are common to all businesses whether in the private sector or the public. I have the background to help RVSD address these types of issues plus the institutional historical knowledge about the District due to my length of service.
