About Andreas Borgeas: Husband, Father, Community Leader, Law Professor, City Councilmember, Problem Solver...

As a youth, Andreas attended public schools, was an altar boy, enjoyed playing baseball and was active in the YMCA in Phoenix, AZ. His parents encouraged education and instilled in him discipline and a strong work ethic by starting Andreas working at the age of 11. Through hard work, Andreas went on to receive his education at Northern Arizona University, Harvard University and Georgetown Law School, becoming a Fulbright Scholar and in 2000 a member of the California Bar.

Andreas came to Fresno to serve one term as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Oliver W. Wanger at the U.S. District Court. A chance introduction to a girl at Starbucks piqued his interest, and after becoming active in church and community he quickly fell in love with Fresno and decided to make it home. Andreas later went into private practice where he specialized in business and international law, and recently was a Policy Specialist at the U.S. Embassy in Kazakhstan. Drawn to education, Andreas is the Professor of International and Comparative Law at the San Joaquin College of Law.

Andreas is married to Anna Hadjinlian Borgeas (that very girl from Starbucks!) who is the Vice President and Chief Operations Officer of the Fresno Chamber of Commerce. Andreas and Anna are blessed with a son, Alexander, and they enjoy sharing with him their Greek and Armenian heritage in the vibrant and dynamic Fresno County they are working to create.Andreas became a member of the Fresno City Council in January 2009 after receiving nearly 70% of the vote.

Never shying from the difficult decisions, he has been an integral part of keeping Fresno financially solvent while maintaining key public services during these unprecedented difficult economic times. He has also authored significant pieces of legislation, such as the multi-jurisdictional San Joaquin River and Bluff Protection Initiative and the successful 2010 ballot initiative "Measure A", which improved public safety and saved Fresno taxpayers millions of dollars.

In addition to the City Council, Andreas serves on the following boards and commissions: Chairman, Fresno Water Task Force; Upper Kings Basin Water Authority; Fresno County Transportation Authority; Council of Governments; Council Budget & Audit Committee; and the Mayor's Pension Review Task Force.
