Smart Voter Full Biography for Skylar Peak

Candidate for
Member of the City Council; City of Malibu

This information is provided by the candidate

I am a third generation resident of Malibu. My grandparents settled here in the 1950s and my grandmother Phyllis still lives here. I love her stories about our small town, horses on the beach, and her days being a docent at the Adamson House. I believe Malibu must retain its historical charm and rural environment. I am committed to make decisions to protect and preserve our home, its natural beauty, safety, history, and way of life.

As a graduate of Malibu schools, St. Aiden's to Juan Cabrillo, Malibu High School, and Pepperdine University, I understand the opportunities and challenges facing kids. I serve on the board of the Malibu Boys and Girls Club and have experienced first hand that good education requires local focus, and I am committed to improving our public schools here in Malibu.

I serve as a Commissioner for the City of Malibu Parks and Recreation Commission and on the City of Malibu Wastewater Advisory Committee. I am committed to finding the sources of pollution, and implementing solutions to clean up our oceans and watershed. The wide blanket approach of penalizing all of Malibu for dirty water must cease and we must involve our community in a practical solution.

I own and operate a small family-run electrical construction business that my father Dusty Peak founded in Malibu in 1978, Peak Power Electric. My parents taught me the value of hard work and that responsibility for the community begins at home.

In addition, I am a professional surf instructor, trained as an EMT, and have worked as a Lifeguard for Los Angeles County Fire Department at Zuma Beach for many years. I grew up in the ocean and we must be mindful of this precious resource.

I will continue to be a proactive participant in the decisions that affect Malibu's future. I am open-minded, a good listener, and a proven leader.
