Elected to the City Council in 2006 and reelected in 2010, Scott Malsin has proven that leadership can make a difference. He has been a champion for public safety, recreational opportunities, intelligent planning and the environment. He has earned a reputation for being extraordinarily responsive to his constituents. He has demonstrated his dedication to the City's long-term financial sustainability. And he has been a powerful voice for Culver City in the region and beyond.

From the renovation of Westfield Culver City to the new Expo Line Aerial Station, Scott has helped to shape some of the most long-lasting advances in the City's built environment. From community-building Park Enhancement Grant Program to far-reaching "Green Building" regulations, Scott has helped make Culver City more family-friendly and sustainable. From bringing Culver City events like IndieCade - the Independent Video Game Festival - to promoting the arts, culture and dining throughout our community, Scott has helped put Culver City on the map.

Scott first became involved in local affairs by organizing a series of tree planting projects in his west side neighborhood that increased our City's urban forrest by a remarkable 93 trees. He was active in the successful 2002 fight to keep Daniel Freeman Marina Hospital open, helping to preserve a vital piece of our regional healthcare network. He formed the Culver West Neighborhood Association in 2002, fostering an effective partnership between the City and its west Culver City neighborhoods.

Scott served on the Culver City Planning Commission from 2001 until 2006. As a Commissioner, Scott protected the character of our residential neighborhoods, helped craft the City's Open Space Ordinance, worked on a major update of the City's zoning code and helped lay the groundwork for the redevelopment of Westfield Culver City.

Scott has been an active in numerous volunteer efforts and non-profit organizations. Among others, he served on the board of environmental non-profit Ballona Creek Renaissance from 2001 to 2010 and is a Past President of the Exchange Club of Culver City, which raises money for local charities through great events like the Culver City Car Show and the Fourth July Fireworks Show at Culver City High School.
