SB has several programs underway that, if they are adequately recognized and integrated, can potentially create 1000s of jobs in the near future.
Omni-trans and San Bernardino Associated Governments (SANBAG)have committed over $250 million for transporation improvements within SB. sbX bus rapid transit line is the first of 10 such transit links in the San Bernardino basin. The construction of a transit center at Rialto and E Streets and the extension of the MetroLink train service from the Santa Fe Depot to this transit center are included in this investment. A light rail line is in planning and will provide access from the transit center to University of Redlands. All these transport lines meet in downtown SB. 1000s of passengers will pass through SB's downtown and provide the basis for retail, dinner, and residential opportunities. The construction of these transit lines, along with retail/dining/residential spaces will create 1000s of jobs -both permanent and short-term. But these are just the beginning, these same two agencies plan to spend an equal amount over the next decade in further expansion -- again focusing on downtown SB. Presently, SB's unique Enterprise Zone brought 2400 jobs to SB in 2010, and 2000 jobs in the first 6 months of 2011. Combining this with the opportunities for innovative consultation with Cal State's business development centers and SB's Office of Business Development offer continuing partnerships for successful business planning, as well as support services, e.g. in marketing, financial management, personnel, among others.
