Candidate for
Member, City Council; City of Hawthorne

John Vargas is a lifelong resident and proven community leader. As Vice-President of the Hawthorne School Board and Treasurer of the North Hawthorne Community Association, he knows the challenges our city faces.

As your Councilmember, John will improve City Government. As a School Board Member, John has experience bringing people together. He knows it is important to have consensus in order to create progress. He will work to improve communication between city hall and the resident. Most importantly, he work to improve city ethics through contribution and term limitations.

Education is also priority to John. In order to counteract State budget cuts, the city should partner with our schools to strengthen academics and eliminate overcrowding. Together we can provide better services to the students and Hawthorne residents.

Strengthening Economic Development is an integral part of maintaining and restoring city services. The city must do all it can to attract new businesses to create local jobs. John will revise the general plan, simplify our business licensing process, and be more proactive in recruiting businesses to come to Hawthorne.

John Vargas will ensure our police and firefighters have the necessary resources to keep the streets safe, while maintaining a balanced budget through newly generated revenue.
