Candidate for
Council Member; City of Cerritos

I am a mother of three children, a professor and a very active member of the community. I am an immigrant from India. I came here after going through a lot of personal hurdles which made me a strong believer in hard work. I have worked several jobs starting from scratch. Therefore I am sensitive to the diverse populations needs and I can completely relate to their problems.

I have earned a Master's degree in English Language and Literature (4.0 GPA) from an accredited institution in the United States. I also have completed one year of a Post Graduate Certificate in Teaching English. I have been teaching English and English as a Second Language to a wide and diverse population in California for the last fifteen years at various campuses. I am currently an instructor in the department of ESL at Long Beach City College and Golden West College.

Currently, I am an active member of CTA/NEA, President of Booster Club at Gonsalves Elementary School, advisor of Medieval society club at LBCC. I was also a member of screening and selection committee to hire the vice president of student support services at LBCC and ABC unified school district which resulted in ABC Unified school district gaining two highly qualified principals for our elementary schools.
