Restoring Investments in Education

By Richard Pan

Candidate for Member of the State Assembly; District 5

This information is provided by the candidate
Dr. Pan's parents taught him to value a good education above all else. A product of public education through high school, a graduate of Johns Hopkins University, the University of Pittsburgh Medical School, recipient of a Masters in Public Health from Harvard University, and a current university educator to medical students, Dr. Pan understands the critical role of a strong education system. He believes strongly in investing in our schools including community colleges, state colleges and universities as well as providing educational opportunities for all children. Dr. Pan knows that for California to succeed in the global economy of the 21st Century, it must have excellent teachers; well-funded public schools; and well prepared students with engaged families to produce the most skilled and educated workforce in the world.

That's why if he's elected to the State Assembly, Dr. Pan will fight strongly against damaging budget cuts. He will seek to restore accountability and public confidence in our public schools and put more resources back into our classrooms and in the hands of educators, parents and children alike. Dr. Pan will fight to make college affordable and accessible to all students, and will push the state to make the right investments into K-12, vocational, and higher education. As a leader in service learning, Dr. Pan will seek to promote partnerships between educators and labor unions, businesses, and community organizations to develop innovative programs that engage all students in their education.

California is currently in the midst of some of the toughest economic challenges it has ever faced, and Dr. Pan believes that a sustained investment in education is the way to prosperity.
