Shaun McCaffery emigrated to Southern California in 1981 at the age of six from Edmonton, Alberta. It was a memorable trip, passing the newly erupted Mount St. Helens on the way to Orange County. Shaun had already demonstrated an aptitude for building things, taking after his father, an engineer. He quickly got involved in local sports, competitive academics and loved to fish from charter boats out of Newport Beach and Dana Point. At 13, Shaun began a 7 year job picking fruit after school at a small orange grove. He also played high school football and was accepted to the engineering program at U.C. Davis. While in college Shaun interned at an oil refinery working with scientists on a project to lower the amount of harmful gasses produced in automobile engines. Later, he worked at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory supporting fusion energy research. Shaun's first international project was leading UC Davis's robot soccer team. He traveled to Korea as team leader after designing the robots' mechanical components and helped to establish the tournament rules. After college, Shaun accepted a job at Optical Coating Laboratory in Santa Rosa. At OCLI Shaun worked on projects that took him all over the world, including Beijing. One of Shaun's favorite projects took him to Latvia, where he collaborated with local engineers to help develop cutting edge banknote manufacturing equipment. He earned a reputation as someone who builds personal relationships, completing projects on time and within budget.

To better understand the world we live in, Shaun bought a van and traveled throughout North America, from Northern Alberta to the post-Katrina bayous of Louisiana, a journey of 15,000 miles. Currently Shaun is employed at Sirrus Technology as a senior mechanical engineer where he is responsible for the design and support of Sirrus' manufacturing equipment. Shaun recently completed a project to manufacture windows that switch from transparent to opaque, reducing the need for heating and air conditioning in residential and commercial buildings. For 15 years, Shaun has worked to make alternative energy a viable reality.

In 2004 Shaun was cast as an actor in Shakespeare's 12th night at the Raven Theater. During the production, Shaun was asked to be the house manager of the Raven, a paid position he held for almost 5 years. As a volunteer, Shaun was involved with almost every fund-raising event for the Healdsburg Performing Arts Theater. During his tenure, HPAT purchased the Raven building. He also volunteered for events put on by the Raven Players, Imagination Foundation Children's Theater, St. Johns Schools Theater Performances and Recitals, the Healdsburg Jazz Festival, community forums, as wells as Sonoma County Supervisor Debates. In 2005, Shaun took on the responsibility of sound production manager for the Healdsburg Jazz Festival. Shaun has continued to volunteer for the Jazz Festival to this day. He was instrumental in bringing world class jazz musicians into Healdsburg's schools. Shaun's community involvement through the theater and the Jazz Festival sparked his interest in running for the Healdsburg City Council.

With his experience in project management in the business world and his love of the arts and outdoors, Shaun is an excellent fit for the Healdsburg City Council. Shaun's life experiences and skill set are perfectly aligned with the demands of our community at this moment in time.
