Questions & Answers

1. How should public transit in Santa Rosa evolve during your term on the Council? Include in your answer comments on the effects of SMART and the new Sutter Hospital site.

I am supportive of more transit options, especially buses running later and more service on weekends. Shuttle buses and effective connections to SMART are great opportunities to make transit much more practical and attractive for our community. Ideally the new Sutter Hospital site would be easily accessible by public transit and bicycles, in addition to easy car access.

2. What roles should cuts in services and tax increases have in balancing the Santa Rosa general fund budget? What cuts and/or tax increases do you recommend?

For the deep levels of cuts we have had to make, some reduction in services has been necessary. Hopefully the limited term sales tax measure will pass so essential services like the swim centers and Senior Center will get the funding needed to keep them open and serving our community.

I would like to see the Sales Tax ended early by being replaced with a combination of a Utility Users Tax UUT and some type of carbon tax or cap with an added dividend system. Hopefully a carbon cap or tax will be done nationally, or Statewide or Regionally. If not, I hope we explore some options for Santa Rosa.

3. What should the City do to foster job growth?

Continue to support our local businesses... more soon
