John Hamon Campaign Statement 2010
It has been an honor to serve my fellow Roblans as Councilman. I am an individual who is committed to improving our community of Paso Robles and for this reason I ask you for the opportunity to continue the serious work of guiding us through these challenging times. I consider myself, after 34 years of experience, a financially responsible small business owner that understands the need to be conservative with public tax dollars. My belief is that local government cannot be all things to all people. During this current economic down turn, I have voted to make fiscally prudent decisions to decrease our city staff by 25%, and reduce planned spending by $26,000,000. I am proud of our Economic Strategy that created a vision to help us steer our City through both the good, and the not so good, times. During my years as a Chamber Board member, I learned that the City's and our Business Communities' relationship were critical for a healthy city. I support our agricultural small town heritage, along with our evolving tourism experience. Encouraging local enterprise to give our visitors a richly unique experience and special knowledge of Paso Robles is a personal goal that I have promoted to help stabilize employment for our workers. This goal also stimulates a strong business environment which supplies our city with important sales tax revenue; revenue that drives the many public services like our police, fire, library and recreational departments. Roblans expect a safe place to live; I will continue to uphold all decisions that keep us protected. I am a fourth generation son of the central coast whose ancestry goes back to the construction of the Cuesta Grade railroad tunnels. My personal work ethic, volunteer spirit, coupled with a realistic, predictable and understandable thought process has mixed well with my fellow council member. Learning to listen and blend experiences with others is a quality that local elected officials must have to be effective for the people who matter most, our Paso Robles citizens. I have found that after four years of service on your city council, I have solidified my base of knowledge and history on various issues; critical experience that a councilman must have to make proper decisions. I ask for the honor of your vote of confidence in allowing me to continue my conservative representation on your city council. Respectfully submitted,

John R. Hamon Jr. Candidate for City Council
