Every person deserves a voice. A chance to be heard. An opportunity to be judged on the merit of their idea. Every person deserves this, but sometimes we don't get it. Too many times, we have allowed our elected officials to attain office because they strongly champion one issue. Electing officials with a particular agenda results in representatives who listen only to those who hold in common their narrow ideology. San Luis Obispo needs, now more than ever, leaders who realize there are many sides to every situation and all deserve to be heard and valued.

We need on our city council community members who realize that our future in San Luis Obispo will be created by those who are capable of bringing people to the table to create solutions. This is what works. Saying no to anything that creates change is not leadership, it's obstructionism. Every idea deserves to be judged on it's own merits rather than whether or not it fits in with someones particular agenda.

The biggest responsibility the city council has is representing us in determining effective budget priorities and land use. The council cannot expect to be effective if they believe they have the answers already, before the issues are even heard. The public deserves to have leaders who are dedicated to creating solutions to our issues.

I promise as your Mayor to keep an open mind to all ideas and positions and to make decisions based on the positive impact on all the residents of San Luis Obispo. Through collaboration of stakeholders we can create the most viable solutions. Bottomline, the decisions made at council meetings need to make sense for San Luis Obispo. A vote for Paul Brown is a vote for common sense leadership with a new approach.
