Three words are very important in our district:

ACCOUNTABILITY, INTEGRITY AND SAFETY.

We believe in:
-- Academic accountability for our students. We have high expectations of them. The recent results of the State Accountability system show our district scores rising and we continue to close the achievement gap for all sub groups.

-- Professional accountability for our teaching staff as the direct avenue toward student learning and achievement. Every day, in every classroom, they must deliver the curriculum with subject matter knowledge and teaching skill. This is monitored and evaluated.

-- Accountability from our support staff, from the custodians to the superintendent, who provide the environment in which learning takes place.

We believe in fiscal accountability. Our budget is transparent and at times requested as a model for other districts' use.

We are grateful that our community passed a bond in 2002. The new buildings and the modernization contribute to an improved learning environment. Our high bond rating (Standard and Poor's: AA-, Moody's: Aa2) enabled a September bond refinancing with a savings to the taxpayers of $4.5 million. This follows a 2005 reduction for taxpayers of $6 million. Moody's has commented "... the district manages its finances well as any district in America."

We believe in accountability for ourselves as we fulfill the wishes of the community for the education of its children.

Our schools provide a safe learning environment. Our high expectation of student behavior, as codified in the board adopted Moral and Civic Values, is essential as they prepare to be good citizens in our wonderful country.

Students have a choice of which school, of our six high schools, to attend. The healthy competition this brings has made everyone better.

My tenure as a board member has demonstrated that I am committed to a quality educational program for EVERY student; accountability to the public for the schools it has placed in our trust, and integrity in the way we fulfill this important promise.

I hope to continue this most important job and maintain the excellence in the Fullerton Joint Union High School District.
