I knew coming onto the Council that support of local business was, along with ensuring public safety, the most important task facing me. Recovery from the economic downturn will come through strengthening the already growing partnership with our business community. We + the Council, City staff, the business community, and the residents as a group + have to move in the same direction, and everyone I talk to knows that. The Council needs to continue the work it has undertaken in the last four years. We have been fiscally conservative, effective in finding alternative ways to fund projects and provide services, far-sighted in our planning, and determined not to let public safety be compromised. The City and community can take pride in the following accomplishments in my four years on the Council, many of them long overdue. Here are six among the many:
  • the completion of a waste-water treatment plant that will serve our community well into the future
  • the acquisition of the land on Airport Park Boulevard to make room for economic expansion and job creation
  • the Sergeant Jason Buzzard (Orchard Avenue) bridge
  • the extensive upgrades to our electrical infrastructure
  • the nearly completed skate park
  • significant budget process changes that promote better planning and cost analysis

Many City residents have commented on the effectiveness and spirit of cooperation in the current City Council. I agree. My particular contribution has been to ask good questions, to promote rational discussion and collective decision-making, and to ensure civility among my colleagues even when we disagree. I have served on at least 20 committees, boards and commissions, notably the Mendocino County Economic Development and Finance Corporation, the Mendocino Transit Authority, the County Library Advisory Board, the Main Street Program, and the Chamber of Commerce.
