I am running for Attorney General to bring my experience in law, public policy and business to find innovative ways to make California safer + reducing crime and reforming our broken government. California voters are looking for a new voice to take on California's toughest problems because so many politicians have failed them. As I travel around the state, people tell me they want a leader with a track record of finding innovative solutions to complex problems. Voters are motivated by my vision for bringing innovation back to Sacramento and the discipline that delivers results. I have real world, hands-on experience as chief legal counsel for Facebook -- as a businessman, I understand the importance of the bottom line. At a time when California is facing one of the worst budget crises in the state's history, I will make sure that the Attorney General's office is run efficiently and effectively.

I grew up as a middle class kid in San Jose, attending public schools and Bellarmine College Preparatory, a Jesuit institution that emphasizes dedication to public service. After two years in college at Berkeley, my interest in public service and to see the rest of the country before settling in the Bay Area led me to transfer to Georgetown. After graduation and starting a Ph.D. program in political theory at Yale, I went to work for President Clinton's 1992 campaign. With President Clinton's victory, I joined the Presidential transition and the Administration, helping to put 100,000 new community police officers on America's streets and to develop initiatives like AmeriCorps. In my most recent role as chief legal counsel at Facebook, I worked side by side with Attorneys General in all 50 states to help make the Internet a safer place. As Attorney General, I will use new technologies, like crime mapping software and advanced forensics, to crack down on gang violence and reduce violent crimes.
