At age 25, when most lawyers are just graduating from law school, I became the chief executive of a small manufacturing firm owned by a Fortune 500 company. I learned many lessons from balancing two drastically different cultures - big corporate and local business. I had to answer for the financial bottom line to our parent company, manage the day-to-day operations of the business, and carve out success in the local marketplace. For over a decade I successfully ran this business. I worked hard to shape the culture of our company around a set of common values and a shared vision. At the end of my tenure, I have had the privilege of passing the mantle of leadership to a group of employees, each of which I hired and trained, and who eventually purchased the company from our parent.

I left that success to begin a career in law because I had a growing desire to contribute directly to the success of our culture. After seeking the counsel of many whom I respect, I entered an evening and weekend program at Thomas Jefferson School of Law. I did not have the luxury of attending law school full-time because I was sole wage earner for my wife and three young children. Instead, I attended school part-time, which means I completed the full-time three year program in four years while working at demanding job and caring for my family.

Directly out of law school, I began my own practice where I handled a number of civil and criminal matters. Like many sole practitioners, I had a general practice which not only gave me a broad legal experience, but also taught me how to successfully enter new areas of law with the required levels of competency.

Throughout my career, I have the privilege of using my professional skill to protect the constitutional rights of the citizens of our county without cost. From matters as mundane as licensing disputes to litigating First Amendment cases, I have helped people like you stand against our government when it tries to spill over into areas of our lives where it doesn't belong. Government is necessary to ordered liberty, but just as we have proper boundaries to our own power, so does government. If we wish to maintain balance between the spheres of our lives, the individual, the family, the church, and civil government, we must constantly insure that one does not encroach on the authority of the others.

For the past dozen years, I have practiced law within the mortgage banking industry and now serve as General Counsel for a local lending institution doing nationwide business. This position which gives me the opportunity to work with some of the nation's leading law firms and see first-hand how our laws impact business in America. Each day I'm faced with integrating the rules of one of the most highly regulated businesses in our country with the practical "how to" that allows our company to operate in compliance with the law and in competition with our peers.

I've been married to my wife Vicky for 33 years and have three grown children living in San Diego, Texas, and Kansas. I've attended Skyline Church for the past 22 years and enjoy playing ice hockey, surfing, and fishing when I get the chance.

I'm Bill Trask and I'm the candidate with the experience, temperament, and understanding of our Constitution to faithfully represent you in our Superior Courts.
