Jeff Olson has the honesty, integrity, and commitment to public service that San Diego County residents demand from their elected officials. His middle class upbringing and his grass roots approach means that he will always be the people's representative; a true advocate for the taxpayer.

Jeff is uniquely qualified to serve as your Assessor/Recorder/Clerk due to his 20 years of experience with the Assessor's office and his proven commitment to protecting the rights of taxpayers. Jeff began his career at the Assessor's Office in 1990 as a Property Assessment Specialist. Due to his hard work and dedication Jeff quickly progressed through the Assessor ranks. Jeff became a Lead Appraiser in 1997 and in 2003 was promoted to Supervising Appraiser for the Assessor's East County branch office. In 2006 he accepted his current position, Chief of Assessment Services.

Jeff's responsibilities include the management of fourteen operational sections of the Assessor's office. He is responsible for property tax exemptions; for homeowners, disabled veterans, and charitable organizations such as churches and museums. He is responsible for providing exclusions from reappraisal for seniors, parents and their children, and disabled citizens. Jeff is also the departmental lead for property tax reductions. Reductions are provided due to real estate market conditions and after the occurrence of a disaster or calamity.

Throughout his career Jeff's focus has always been on assisting the taxpayer. In 2003 and 2007 Jeff was the departmental lead in assisting wildfire survivors obtain property tax reductions. In 2009, after thousands of taxpayers had overpaid their property tax bills, Jeff established a methodology that resulted in 15,000 property tax refunds. Throughout his 20 years with the Assessor's office, Jeff has always prioritized public outreach and taxpayer education. Jeff's leadership has fostered an Assessor's office that truly works for you, the taxpayer.

Educationally, Jeff graduated from Patrick Henry High School in 1981. He began his collegiate education at Grossmont Community College where he graduated in 1983 with an Associate Degree in Business Administration, emphasis in Information Systems. Jeff attended San Diego State University for three semesters before completing his undergraduate studies at National University earning his BBA in Finance in 1988.

On a personal note, Jeff is a San Diego native currently living in East County with his wife Caroline and their two children. They enjoy all the outdoor activities that San Diego County has to offer including boating, fishing, and camping.

Jeff's commitment to protecting the rights of taxpayers goes beyond his duties at the Assessor's office. Jeff is a proud member of the San Diego County Taxpayer's Association and the Howard Jarvis Taxpayer's Association. Jeff's commitment to public service includes his membership in the Downtown San Diego Breakfast Rotary. The County of San Diego and Rotary have mottos that Jeff strongly believes in; the County's motto, "The Noblest Motive is the Public Good", and the Rotary Motto, "Service above Self".
