Judge Robert C. Longstreth is a respected jurist on the San Diego Superior Court whose legal career encompasses service in the civil, criminal, public and private legal sectors. Appointed to the bench in 2008, Judge Longstreth also served as a Judge pro tem with the San Diego Municipal and Superior Courts from 1992 to 2008.

Judge Longstreth spent most of his legal career with the Gray Cary firm in San Diego, now known as DLA Piper, where he represented individuals and businesses in environmental and insurance matters, including civil and criminal enforcement proceedings. He has worked as a trial attorney with the United States Justice Department, and as a state and federal prosecutor. He achieved the highest possible Martindale-Hubbell ratings for both legal ability and ethical standards.

Judge Longstreth received his Juris Doctorate from Yale Law School where he was co-director of the Yale Civil Legal Assistance Project and served on the university's Committee on Investor Responsibility. He is a graduate of Haverford College, where he was elected to Phi Beta Kappa. He worked his way through school managing a pizza shop and a McDonald's franchise.

Judge Longstreth writes the leading treatise on handling personal injury and property damage claims against the federal government. He has taught Natural Resources Law for UCSD Extension, and has lectured on environmental issues at the USD School of Law, Thomas Jefferson School of Law, the SDSU Institute for the Regional Study of the Californias, and California Western School of Law. He was President of the San Diego Chapter of the Federal Bar Association, and conducted hearings as a volunteer arbitrator for the San Diego County Bar Association for over ten years.

Committed to the San Diego community, Judge Longstreth served on the Board of the Downtown San Diego YMCA, and was a chief in the YMCA's Adventure Guide/Indian Guide program. He was also a Board member of the San Diego County Probation Department's Volunteers in Probation program, and was on the Board of the Austin Guild at St. Augustine High School. He has been President, Secretary, Treasurer and Career Counseling Resource Network coordinator of the Yale Club of San Diego. With his wife, he started the Friends and Neighbors Holiday Project to provide presents for children in the juvenile dependency system. He has coached teams in the Tecolote Youth Baseball League, the Peninsula Youth Softball League and the Diocese of San Diego's Parochial Sports League.

Judge Longstreth and his wife Veronica, a former Deputy County Counsel in San Diego, have lived in Mission Hills for over 20 years. They have two children.
