Helping Homeowners

By Richard N. Benson

Candidate for Assessor-Recorder-Cnty Clerk; County of Marin

This information is provided by the candidate
Rich has helped the homeowners with legislation and office procedures
Since coming to the Assessor's office in 1985, I have pushed for legislation that helps homeowners on both local and statewide levels. I drafted legislative language expanding property tax protections to persons whose property has been damaged or destroyed by fire or calamity. I also helped write legislation for Floating Home owners with property tax protections like those afforded to Manufactured Home owners. This provides great savings to the taxpayer who does not actually own the real estate under their home.

I am proud of my role passing environmentally popular legislation that allows homeowners to file electronic plans in Assessor's offices throughout the State.

As your Assessor, I will continue this legislative work, working to restore the senior citizen tax deferral program and the Williamson Act that helps family farms survive.

I will also institute increased streamlining and technological improvements to make use of our offices easier for all.
