Planning for Economic Recovery

By Louis R. "Lou" Calcagno

Candidate for Supervisor; County of Monterey; Supervisorial District 2

This information is provided by the candidate
Lou Calcagno is leading the way to economic recovery by creating jobs and attracting new businesses to Monterey County.
Economic recovery of Monterey County shall be the mainstay of Supervisor Calcagno's next term in office. Lou will chair a blue-ribbon committee of our county's business leaders to develop a county-wide program that will strengthen our core industries and build on existing economic development plans.

Lou is also working with a team of Ag leaders to develop an Ag-rail system as a low cost alternative to transport fresh fruits and vegetables from the Salinas Valley to the east coast.

Supervisor Calcagno supports local businesses and helps bring new jobs to the community. Lou assisted Sunridge Farms' relocation into the old Smucker's facility in Pajaro creating over 200 jobs. He helped the Department of Agriculture locate the Light Brown Apple Moth Sterile Release Program office in Moss Landing bringing over 100 new jobs that also help protect California's $37 billion Ag industry from infestation. He is working with Calera Corp. to develop a "green" cement production facility in Moss Landing, which will employ over 150 workers and significantly reduce emissions from both cement and energy production facilities.
