I have been a social and environmental justice activist since 1959. I believe in our democracy and know citizenship is not an armchair hobby. Thomas Jefferson said, "The price of freedom is eternal vigilance." I believe we must be actively involved to understand and fight against the forces at large that would harm our way of life. I believe that there is a tension between our two basic values "liberty" and "justice for all." We must keep these two principles in balance. The challenges are enormous. We must balance corporate wants with the people's needs. We must all work to bring our government back into balance and rebuild our economic, political, environmental and social systems so they are more balanced. I believe in moderation. The Greeks taught us "moderation in all things." We must work to bring our society back to the Golden Mean. I have served as an officer of the Los Angeles and California Democratic Party for many years. I want to continue to represent the citizens of the 38th AD. I will work hard to continue our quest to create a more just and fair society.
