My Top Priorities

By Ann Gallelli

Candidate for Member, Board of Trustees; Village of Croton-On-Hudson

My first priority is to continue the success that my running mate, Rick Olver, and I have had working with the current Board in reducing taxes for the first time ever. Following four years in which Village spending increased $1 million each year, this year we reduced spending and reduced Village taxes by 1.9%. With the introduction of a first-ever mid-year budget review this past Fall, we were able to identify an additional $55,000 to be saved just in this fiscal year. We can match this record next year.

My second priority is to facilitate the development of a strong marketing effort by the Village to attract new businesses to locate in our commercial areas. With the economy in its current slump, now is the time to prepare for its turnaround by creating an outreach campaign. Achieving a revitalized business community will result in a more vibrant village. It will also have the effect of taking some of the current property tax load off our residential properties.

My third priority is to focus on identifying realistic areas where revenue can be increased. The Parking Lot Feasibility Study currently underway to study a potential parking structure, will give us the information needed to determine if we can gain increased revenue from our ownership of the rail station parking lot. This includes the condition that any structure, if it were feasible, would not be at VVillage taxpayer expense. The station parking lot provides over $2 million in revenues thus reducing our current tax burden substantially. It is only prudent and fiscally responsible to see if we can get more revenue from this source. Additionally, I am supporting energy savings opportunities that offer both cost savings and, in some cases, revenue opportunities as well.
