Mayor; Village of Mamaroneck

This information is provided by the candidate

Mamaroneck Community:

I am a life long resident of the Village of Mamaroneck. I am also a third generation member of my family that has been actively involved in the culture and development of the Village since 1904.

My Grandfather Nathan Sirlin was member of the Mamaroneck Mutual Aid Society. Several of the members would meet in the back office of Sirlin's Paint and Hardware store and consequently founded the Hebrew Institute and built Mamaroneck's first synagogue located on Halstead Ave. Many decades later this evolved into the Westchester Jewish Center now located at Palmer and Rockland Ave.

Nathan Sirlin also was a builder of homes and some of Mamaroneck's first apartment houses, which are still housing familes at the 200 block (House of Flowers)& (Vincent Jewelers)and 1400 block on Mamaroneck Ave.

This heritage of community involvement was carried on in the next generation by his children, Sam Sirlin operating the Sirlin's Hardware store, Ruby Sirlin a local attorney and Town of Rye Justice, Helen Sirlin (Rosenblum), my mother, who was a two term president of the WJC Sisterhood and a founding member of the Westchester Division of the United Jewish Appeal, a member of the March of Dimes, and the local PTA at Barry Ave elementary school.

This sense of community was instilled and past down to the Third generation with my Cousin Roger Sirlin (Ruby's son) as a Westchester County Asst. District Attorney and a Village of Mamaroenck Justice for over 28 years. My Sister Judy recording books for the Blind at the Cleveland Library, My Brother James carries on in the building trade completing office buildings and Assistant Living facilities throughout the New York metropolitan area and extending to upstate New York and New Jersey. Jim is the founder and owner of FDNY Racing, a NASCAR team that dedicates its fund raising to the UFA Widows and Children's Fund. Jim's participation has been recognized with the New Post Liberty Medal award as well as an Honorary Battalion Chief recognition by the Fire Deparment of the City of New York.

It is this sense of community that I also have been blessed with from my parents that led me to be involved as a basketball coach for ten years at the Westchester Jewish Center, a Trustee in the Village of Mamaroneck, a long term member of the Town of Rye Board of Assessment Review, The Chief Operating Officer of the Courageous Syndicate participating in the quest for the America's Cup in Australia, which was particulalrly pleasing as this was the only scholastic based Yacht Club (Yale University) to ever enter the America's Cup sailing competition. I am currently the Chairman of the Village of Mamaroneck Tree Committee and got great pleasure when we were able to plant over 100 tress in the Village during the past year.

Education:

Barry Ave. Elementary School Rye Neck High School University of Vermont U.S. Department of Commerce and State (continuing)

Vocational:

I have enjoyed a broad spectrum of employment as a special education teacher in the New York City School system at schools in East Harlem and the Southeast Bronx. I was later employed by Walston & Co. and trained as a financial advisor and was licensed by the NYSE, NASD and the Chicago Board of Mercantile. I am currently the Manager of Contracts Administration for Safe Flight Instrument Corporation, an avionics manufacturer located in White Plains, New York. I am responsibile for negotiating multi-million dollar projects with OEM's including Boeing Aircraft, IAI,L-3 Communications, Lockheed-Martin, British Aerospace and Embraer to name few. I also have the responsibility for administration of all U.S. government military contracts. I am continously attending U.S. Department of State courses on International Traffic in Arms Regulations and the U.S. Department of Commerce on Export regulations with the responsibility of ensuring Safe Flight's compliance to the numerous regulations. I get particular satisfaction from the negotiating process at domestic and foreign locations. It is a continuing process in honing one's skills to help develope agreements that meet the goals of all parties involved. I look forward to employing these skills for the benefit of the Village of Mamaroneck and all its volunteers and residents.
