FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS ABOUT the ALL-MAIL ELECTION:

  • VOTING IS EASIER THAN EVER -- BUT HOW DO I DO IT?
    Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. When will the drop-off centers be open?
    Saturday, October 31, 2009, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. and Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, from 7:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. See <http://sbcityvote.org> for locations.

  • Will I be able to mark my ballot there?
Yes, voters can bring their Vote-By-Mail ballot to the drop-off center and vote in a voting booth.

  • 2. Will the City Hall drop-off location also be open during all city office hours after Oct. 5, or only on those 2 days?
Yes, City Hall-City Clerk's Office will be open during regular business hours to receive ballots from October 5 through Election Day, November 3, 2009. See <http://sbcityvote.org> for location, phone, and other information.

  • 3. Does the City handle the voter registration for this election?
Registration is through the County, and is the same as for all elections. You need to re-register if you have moved or changed your name. For questions about Voter Registration, please call 568-2200 or visit the County Elections website.

  • 4. If I register between October 5 and October 19, will my ballot be mailed to me?
Yes, but if you need to vote before it arrives, see Question #5.

  • 5. What happens if my ballot never arrives? If I lose it? If I spoil it? If the dog eats it? If I lose the envelope but the ballot is OK?
Call or visit City Clerk's Office to obtain a replacement ballot or envelope. See <http://sbcityvote.org> for contact info.

  • 6. How will provisional ballots be handled? Will they be different from the regular Vote-By-Mail ballots?
Pink envelopes will be used for provisional ballots. The ballots, whether a voter received in the mail or provisional, are the same.

  • 7. How will I know whether my provisional ballot has been counted?
Contact the City Clerk's Office directly.

  • 8. If I go to a drop-off location, will it have a voting machine? An Auto-Mark?
No. Unfortunately, the City does not receive federal funding, like the County; therefore, the City is exempt from providing such a system. However, the Election Workers will be available to assist a voter with special needs or the voter can bring their own representative to the drop-off center to assist them.

  • 9. When must the City receive my ballot? Does the postmark count?
By Election Day, Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 8:00 p.m. Postmarks do not count--the City must physically receive ballots no later than Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 8:00 p.m.

  • 10. How do I find out who is contributing money, who is receiving money, and how it is being spent? Go to the City's Campaign Finance page, http://www.netfile.com/agency/csb/
