Bay Bridge Failure Wakeup Call

By Scott E. "Wilmore" Wilmore

Candidate for Director; Southern Marin Fire Protection District; 2 Year Short Term

This information is provided by the candidate
Infrastructure collapse provides a preview of conditions during severe disasters like wildfire, earthquake, flood, and extreme weather.
The sudden collapse of a 5,000 pound steel beam on the Oakland Bay Bridge has caused extensive delays and confusion amongst commuters from San Mateo County to Sonoma. This is a minor preview for coming events with the high probability of a major quake, and potential wildfires in southern Marin.

It is imperative to work together with non-profit organizations, Fire Safe Marin, American Red Cross and various county, state and Federal agencies to implement logistical plans for disaster conditions. Living on the fault line at the intersection of potential crossfires necessitates tough decisions and I am certain we can make it happen.

This recent collapse is an inconvenient reminder of the chaos that accompanies more serious emergencies, and the longer term impacts, and expense of making expedient repairs and short term solutions.

Remember Homestead, Florida after the hurricane and New Orleans after the flood? Will we do more to be prepared?

Thank you for your support.

Scott Wilmore
