Creating a Healthier Novato

By Eleanor Sluis

Candidate for Council Member; City of Novato

This information is provided by the candidate
With cooperation, we shall create a healthier Novato A long time resident, teacher, mother, business owner and tax preparer, these are my concerns:
1) COMMUNITY: Expedite the development of an all-inclusive community center at the "vacant" Community House. Support community garden, a bicycle park, and dog park at O" Hair Park. Add new gymnasium, pool, teen and senior center at Hamilton. Update Margaret Todd Senior Center. Add trees and pathways along Redwood Blvd, and where needed.

2) BUSINESS: Facilitate up-dating aging neighborhood shopping centers, consider two-story height limit. Use loans from Redevelopment bonds to up-date advertising campaigns, facades, landscapes for local shopping, to optimize success for downtown and other businesses.

3) HOUSING: Explore appropriate sites for housing, which fit into existing neighborhoods, and thus will fit into the Vision and General Plan when it is completed. Limit size and density.

4) SAVE NOVATO MONEY: Buy, build, or remodel facilities for city staff. Eliminate paying consultant fees. Assure full utilization of newly remodeled Novato church/City Hall. Save money by continuant parking as it is.

5) POLICE PROTECTION: Screen all candidates for police jobs for excellent mental health. Add more police patrols. Consider foot patrols, horses, Segway and bikes for police needs to monitor "hot spots" in Novato. Thank you,
