Expanded Philosophy

A top priority is to keep water and sewer rates low. Some things, like the price of imported water from Municipal and Foothill water boards who surcharge us if water consumption rises by over 10 percent. We can't change the amount per unit they charge CVWD but with your continued help we are successfully keeping the number of units down. CVWD members with the board conservation program in place, kept consumption 20% on a five year average from 2005 to 2009 and in the current year down 15%.

I am proud of this success, and as a member of the Community Relations/Water Conservation Committee I ask you to continue the good work and in the Spring, when the winter rainy season is over, the board will look again at a possible expansion of the two day a week watering schedule to the three day a week schedule of Glendale, Pasadena and Burbank which many of the CVWD community want.

I am currently, with our board, looking at ways to alter our water tier system to make it more customer friendly.

I continue my interest in reducing the cost of moving water into our basin. Electricity is a large cost factor and I am exploring the possibility of using solar technology to move the water at an overall lower cost for the years to come.

I know the safety and purity of our water supply is a great community concern. I have made that a priority in ongoing educational opportunities.

I feel, the best approach for our district is to involve potential CVWD consumers at a very young age in water issues, conservation, purity of the supply, landscaping in an arid environment. I hope to set up, next year, with Glendale Schools, at the elementary, middle school and high schools and ongoing program to show them how the water shortage affects them, how they can personally conserve and what impact they can have as consumers of the future.
