The citizens of the Commonwealth are best served by a judiciary that understands and adheres to its role in our government on a fair and even-handed basis. As a Judge of the Commonwealth Court, I will approach every case that comes before me with an open mind and without bias. I believe that the role of judges is to apply precedent faithfully to the facts of the cases before them, to strictly construe the law according to legislative intent, and to leave personal bias and political whim out of the courtroom. In a broad sense, this is what all Pennsylvanians desire of their judges. When judges attempt to usurp the power of legislators, on one hand, or to usurp the power of the executive branch, on the other hand, lasting solutions to our social and political challenges are not advanced, but delayed.
