Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; Croton-Harmon Union Free School District

This information is provided by the candidate

My husband and I moved to Croton in 1999. While we were not yet parents, we knew what we were looking for in a school district. The Croton-Harmon schools have a reputation for excellence and the school culture fosters independence and free thinking. Our daughters are enrolled at CET. Our youngest currently has an Individual Education Plan to assist her in the classroom environment. This has been a tremendous benefit both in helping her to reach her full potential, and to us as a family.

I joined the Board of the Croton Harmon Education Foundation because our family has benefited from CHEF grants over the years. I love CHEF's concentration on school and community betterment. I have had the opportunity to work with administrators, faculty, and parents to work out proposed grant application details, then, along with my fellow CHEF Board members, figure out a way to bring these initiatives to fruition.

As a parent member of PTA and SEPTA, I have volunteered at Book Fairs and other PTA events. SEPTA has been a source of support for my entire family. Their presentations have served to educate and inform us and have given us tools to use to address our daughter's disability. These days you can find me every Friday afternoon in the CET library.

When I was 6 months pregnant with our first child, I left my career as a theatrical electrician. As a pioneering female in a male dominated industry it quickly became necessary to develop both superior technical and negotiating techniques. I can listen, learn, collaborate but also hold to my principles in the face of opposition. As an individual Board member, one has little power. It is through collaboration that the Board is able to set long range policies.

We have the privilege of raising a family in one of the best communities in Westchester.
