Smart Voter Political Philosophy for Peter Bassano, Esq.

Candidate for
Member, Board of Education; White Plains City School District

This information is provided by the candidate

I have a seven year track record as a School Board member of demonstrated sound judgment, diligent service and a willingness to challenge the status quo. My priority has always been the best interests of the children and the taxpayers of White Plains, with allegiance to no other special interest groups. With a new superintendent starting in July, the district needs the experienced consistency in leadership that I can provide.

In response to a clear mandate from the taxpayers, this year's school budget represents an increase of less than 0.75%, one of the lowest in the State and the lowest in White Plains history. This was accomplished without materially affecting the quality of education in our district. A zero-based approach to budget development must be adopted for this efficiency to continue.

Our ability to collect and utilize student achievement data has improved but is not yet where it should be. Data based decision making will increase efficiency and effectiveness.

We have increased standards of performance and accountability for our students and they are meeting this challenge. Board members, administrators, teachers and other district employees should accept this same challenge.
